Growing up with a mother whose heritage was Western European and one that truly embraced it, enjoying afternoon tea was part of her everyday routine. She'd have a cuppa and a sandwich, take a few moments to herself, and simply enjoy the ritual. She drank her tea out of Royal Doulton teacups and she relished every sip.
This weekend Mr. Locke and I enjoyed afternoon tea at Buhl Mansion Guesthouse & Spa and I couldn't help but think of my mother and her Royal Doulton cups with the blue periwinkles. Afternoon tea at the mansion lasts about an hour and is a fun pick-me-up that gives homage to the tradition of drinking tea mid-afternoon that was so common at the turn of the century. Along with several styles of tea, Buhl Mansion offers its guests tea sandwiches, fresh fruit, and small pastries- the perfect way to relax and take in the gorgeous surroundings. I can't wait to write about the full experience soon.
