Have You Checked Out Red Roof PLUS+ Lately? Here's 5 Reasons Why You Should

If you're like I was, you've undoubtedly driven past a Red Roof Inn and kept on driving. Sure, there's never been anything bad about Red Roof Inns, but there wasn't anything spectacular, either. Hey, I'm just being honest.

Until recently...

After a brief meeting with a few of the fine Red Roof reps at the AAA Great Vacations Travel EXPO in Columbus last month, they invited me to check out a Red Roof PLUS+ property in my local area to discover what's new. Always up for a hotel stay and for learning about local hotels, I packed my bags, road tripped less than an hour to the Pittsburgh South location, and Mr. Locke, The Kid, and I discovered five reasons why you should consider staying in a Premium Room at Red Roof PLUS+.

100% Smoke Free Property

Hallelujah! Having a family with allergies, it was a pleasant surprise to know that the entire property was 100% smoke free. We walked into our Premium Room, and with nary a hint of cigarette smoke, we didn't sniffle or sneeze all night.

Mini Fridge and Microwave

A mini fridge and microwave are both standard amenities in Red Roof Plus+ Premium Rooms- and perfect for budgeting families. Our visit to the Pittsburgh South location offered a great spot across the street from a grocery store where we could stock up on drinks and snacks. The microwave also comes in handy for the complimentary snack box offerings as well.

NextGen® Furniture Upgrades in Premium Rooms

Mini Fridge, microwave, tele, and working desk

Red Roof PLUS+ now offers upgrades in its premium rooms including Serta® Rest Suite beds, premium bedding large flat screen televisions, wood-like flooring (not true wood flooring but a synthetic style that handles wear and cleans easily), a separate bathroom and vanity area with a hip vessel sink, and extra plush pillows. There's also free wifi and parking- and even free local calls!

What does this all mean? Instead of tip toeing across hotel room carpeting, there's wood-like flooring that's a cinch to clean if someone spills a drink or snack on the floor. It's also a breeze to wipe up in the winter if you track snow into the room. Trust me on this one. We loved the fact that the vanity was separate from the actual bathroom so one of us could take a shower and another could brush her teeth.

Complimentary Snack Box

This perk was a blessing when we returned back to the room late at night. The Red Roof PLUS+ Premium Rooms offer its guests a complimentary snack box filled with a bottle of water and o.j., microwave popcorn, granola bars, and trail mix.

Discounts and Freebies

Red Roof Inn's toiletries

This season Red Roof PLUS+ is offering several discounts and freebies including a military and government employee promotion, a 15% pet discount (in the Pittsburgh South location pets stay for free!), and kids 17 and under are free as well.

Bottom line? There's plenty of savings to be had. Head to the official Red Roof PLUS+ website for further details and locations.

What We Liked

  • Comfy Beds
  • Premium Room Snack Box
  • Easy to Clean Floors
  • Lots of Pillows- No need to call to the front desk for extras
  • Soft Towels
  • Seattle's Best Coffee® in our Room
  • Microwave and Mini Fridge

What You Need to Know

  • For the Pittsburgh South location, the price difference between a regular and Premium Red Roof PLUS+ room is an upcharge of $15.
  • Red Roof Plus+ properties have guest rooms with outside doors, so no hallways.
  • There's plenty of free coffee in the lobby- and it's really good.
  • The toiletries are pretty standard for a value hotel- shampoo and soap bars. I made the mistake of not bringing my own hair care products, but The Kid loved the Red branded shampoo.

Disclosure: I was given a certificate for a complimentary stay at a Red Roof PLUS+ location. All opinions are my own.

  1. This might be a game changer. I did stay at a Red Roof in Michigan last year and vowed never again. It was dirty, poorly maintained and with an uncomfortable bed. Not worth the discount price. Would consider giving this a shot.
