The Moon and Why I Love Our New Nikon D3300

Last week right around mid-week, one morning when I woke up Mr. Locke couldn't wait to show me a photo he snapped of the moon the night before.

With my eyes barely opened, I dragged myself to the beat laboratory (our fancy title for his in-house recording studio/man cave) and, once my eyes hit his new desk top background photo, they went from sleepy to impressed.

I've seen the moon in telescopes. Heck, I begged my parents for a telescope when I was in grade six so I could check out the stars and the moon and they finally broke down and bought me one. It was the kind with a sun filter and I adored it. The sky, no matter what time of day or night, was absolutely mysterious and beautiful at the same time.

But this photo was taken with our new Nikon D3300. We wanted an upgrade from our previous Nikon model, so Mr. Locke researched popular cameras online, we asked photographer friends, and finally he arrived at our decision.

Once I saw this photo, I couldn't agree with it more.

This photo of the moon has not been enhanced or edited in any way except for cropping to fit my blog specs. I'm simply amazed that there's so much detail in the moon- all without a telescope!

When we blow up the photo on our computer, the image is clear as can be and the details are even more impressive.

So, guess who's been able to relive their science geeky childhood?

This gal.
