Diamond Dust in Ohio

Last year, right around this time, we had a vicious cold snap in my neck of the woods. So cold, in fact, that it began snowing even though the sun was shining and there wasn't a cloud in the sky.

This beautiful phenomenon is known as Diamond Dust and it's completely fascinating to me. The ever present water vapor in the air condenses to form ice crystals. What was fun about taking this photo was the fact that there was already several inches of snow on the ground and the Diamond Dust had a great base to fall on for a day.
