A Sprinkling of Pixie dust at Sola Salons Studios Pittsburgh

I cannot count how many years I've seen The Kid with the same hair style: a pony tail. Day after day and year after year, it's the same old, same old. And it's not for lack of trying, either. When we go to Disney World twice a year I bargain with her to change her hair, even just a little bit.

Until earlier this week.

We were headed up to Sola Salons Studios in East Liberty to check out the new digs and ten minutes before we headed out the door she hits me with the news, "Mom, I think I want to get a pixie cut."

YES!

I asked her to grab a few screenshots of pixie cuts that she liked and bring them with us so the stylist could see exactly what she wanted.  I also told her to make sure she had several different angles.

When we drove up to SSS on Baum Blvd., she could barely contain her excitement.

After a quick tour of the new facilities I came to understand why the owners, Steven Breuner and David Raduziner call it "The Uber of Hair Salons".  Stylist, massage therapists, and nail techs lease a space, maintain their own hours and clients, and keep 100% of their profits.

Line Cutting

The Kid's appointment was with Jess Morrison at Eastside Salon 5. Jess was brilliant with her and asked her exactly what she liked about each of her saved pixie cut hair photos. They combed over each image and The Kid pointed out what she liked best.

She loved both the sharp lines and soft touches that recent pixie cuts have.

Perfect.

When Jess pulled out her pony tail, I bolted.

Why? I wanted to be surprised. So, I walked around the Studios and chatted with the owners while she was being transformed.

What Makes Sola Salon Studios Perfect for Owners and Clients

Here's what I love best about the concept: each stylist runs their own business. They pick the prices, build up clientele, and choose their hours. Say they have a client that has just flown around the world and needs a hair cut or style at three in the morning? They can choose to open their salon doors at 3am.

The Final Cut

The Kid and Jess had an audience during her hair cut and I received updates throughout.

But when I walked into the room?

WOW!

My "Kid" looked so much older. And hipper. And just all-around cool.

Check out that smile. Thank you, Jess!

Disclosure: The Kid received a free haircut from Jess at Sola Salon Studios to give you fine folks the scoop on what makes it so great for clients and stylists. I was not asked to state a particular point of view and all opinions are my own!
