You all know I'm a huge proponent of museums and whenever we're in a new city, or even a city we've visited dozens of times, we make a bee line for them. It's the perfect way to learn about history and culture, art and style without ever having to pull your passport out of storage.
Last weekend The Kid and I had the pleasure of checking out Columbus Museum of Art, including its recent Medieval and Barouque pieces. This megillah, created in Italy around 1700, tells the story of Purim. Purim is a lively Jewish holiday celebrating the braveness and heroism of Esther and Mordecai and how they saved the Jews from extinction in ancient Persia.
Literally translating to scroll in Hebrew, the megillah is a stunning example of Barouque. The ornate handle, gilded details, and stunning animal drawings help to bring the story to life.
